Clean Beauty Youth Committee

It all begins with an idea.

Are you a high schooler who is passionate about community service and wants to support the Beauty Bus mission at your school? This year, I was honored to be officially selected as the first Clean Beauty Club President at my school. And the best part is that there is a turn-key kit that was created through the Clean Beauty Youth Committee that makes every club meeting super easy for you to lead and other schools across the country can do the same.

This past year, I helped designed this kit through the Clean Beauty Youth Committee so that students anywhere can start a Clean Beauty Club at their high school. The kit includes everything you need to get started:

  • Promotional collateral to help present the club and recruit members

  • A PowerPoint template for meetings

  • The first six meeting agendas with engaging activities, from clean beauty myth-busting to home product audits

  • A fundraising guide and video to support Beauty Bus programs

This turn-key structure makes it simple to launch and sustain a club, while also giving students space to bring their own creativity and energy.

What excites me most is that this initiative not only raises awareness about clean beauty but also supports the mission of Beauty Bus to continue to deliver compassion, care, and dignity to patients and caregivers through beauty and grooming services.

I’m incredibly proud to be part of the Clean Beauty Youth Committee and am excited of its impact. Already, we are anticipating implementation in seven other high schools, and this is just the beginning.

If you’re interested in joining this movement, follow @beautybusfoundation and learn how you can become an advocate for clean beauty and get community service hours at your own school. Together, we can create a network of students who care deeply about wellness, advocacy, and giving back.

Defining Clean Beauty

It all begins with an idea.

When you walk down the skincare aisle, it can feel overwhelming. So many bottles promising glowing skin, but not all of them are truly safe or good for the planet. Companies use words like natural, organic, vegan, ethical, sustainable, but what exactly do they mean and which one is more important? That’s where clean beauty comes in. Clean beauty isn’t just about looking good but it’s about making sure the products we put on our skin are safe, ethical, and sustainable.

🌿 For All Skin Types

Clean beauty products are made with gentler ingredients that work across different skin types. Instead of harsh chemicals, they use formulas that help sensitive, oily, dry, and combination skin without causing irritation.

🌱 Sustainable Sourcing

Every ingredient has a story. Clean beauty brands focus on where their materials come from and make sure they’re grown, harvested, or made in ways that don’t hurt the planet.

⚖️ Ethical Production

Behind every product, there are workers. Clean beauty means making sure people who create and package products are treated fairly and work in safe conditions.

🐇 Cruelty-Free and Vegan

One of my favorite parts of clean beauty is that it’s cruelty-free—meaning no animal testing. Many products are also vegan, so they don’t use animal-derived ingredients.

🌸 Minimal and Natural Ingredients

Less is more. Instead of 30+ ingredients you can’t pronounce, clean beauty focuses on simple, natural, and effective ingredients. It’s about knowing what’s on your skin and avoiding harmful stuff like parabens or phthalates.

💧 Transparency and Labeling

The biggest deal for me is transparency. Clean beauty brands should be honest about what’s in their products and clear on their labels. That way, you know exactly what you’re putting on your face or body.

Why Clean Beauty Matters to Me

As someone interested in both science and health, I love how clean beauty connects chemistry with real-world impact. It’s not just about a skincare routine—it’s about protecting our skin, supporting ethical practices, and reducing environmental harm. When I see a label that says “cruelty-free,” “vegan,” or “sustainably sourced,” I know that my choices are part of something bigger.

Clean beauty proves that we don’t have to sacrifice health, animals, or the planet to feel good about ourselves.

Falling into My Clean Beauty Rabbit Hole

It all begins with an idea.

It’s hard to believe that cosmetics have become such a big part of my life. Growing up as a student-athlete, I never wore makeup. I was probably the last of my peers to even think about wearing it, because it just didn’t feel right on my face when I was playing soccer or working out. Sweat and makeup simply don’t mix.

As an athlete, it was important for me to eat clean and use only clean products on my body. I didn’t want to worry about makeup smearing or adding toxic chemicals to my skin.

Fast forward a couple of years, I heard about Beauty Bus, a nonprofit that provides free beauty services to individuals who are sick or terminally ill. I immediately loved their mission of making patients feel good and joyful, even if just for a moment or a day. Moreover, Beauty Bus extended care to the caregivers as well — what a concept! Sometimes we forget that those who work tirelessly to care for the sick have very little time or energy to care for themselves. Oftentimes, they are living and breathing the pressures of providing care: giving medicine, calling doctors, cooking meals that are both healthy and comforting.

It was at Beauty Bus that I first started learning about clean beauty, and I instantly jumped into curious mode. This was an intersection of health, advocacy, chemistry, and art that resonated deeply with me. The more I read, the more I realized there was a lot of conflicting and confusing information out there.

As I went down this rabbit hole, I noticed how many young teens were experimenting with cosmetics and beauty products, often leading to massive breakouts. It became clear that there needed to be better, more digestible information for young people about both the short-term and long-term effects of the products they were buying and using.

That’s how I began my clean beauty journey. What started as a personal curiosity grew into a passion for education, advocacy, and helping others make more informed choices about what goes on their skin.
